Description | The paper presented results of the comprehensive analysis of the reception of Ovid’s Metamorphoses in Baroque art in Bohemia and Moravia, focused mainly on 17th century ceiling painting. First aspects of the reception relate to the referentiality that is one of the essential characteristics of Baroque art in Central Europe, where various influences from both neighbouring and more distant regions intersect. The presentation studied not only forementioned formal links to the illustrated editions of Ovid’s Metamorphoses but also tried to trace the popularity of particular editions among artists and patrons. |
