Description | The presentation attempts to answer simple question – if Prince Casimir was influenced in his mentality by moral ideas of his mentor Jan Długosz. The research suppose possibility of transferring the spirituality through education. To understand the relationship between the mentor and the pupil we must also historically contextualize their behaviour and thinking. With this aim all their personal writings, piece of rare textbook and Dlugosz's Annales are researched. However, lack of number of reliable sources limits the definiteness of findings. Qualitative analysis of primary sources indicate transfer of historical memory from Długosz to Prince Casimir. For this, the mentor used the examples of noble behaviour from history, mainly of Prince's own ancestors (Jagiellonians and Habsburgs). The contextual explanation supposes possible transfer of spirituality and moral values. The impact of the education was presumably stressed by personal religiousness of the mentor. The purpose of Długosz's historical writings, his personality as well as the aim of his service to the king leads us to conclusion, that he could affect prince Casimir by a medieval theory of sacral kingship and christian justice. All of these could later lead Casimir to his own searching of holy life while suffering from deadly disease. |
