Description | This presentation explains how the design and shape of the Ximen residence are presented in the novel Jin Ping Mei, and how they can be made intelligible to readers from a different cultural background living centuries later. It is possible to sketch the rough layout of the mansion, although the information in the novel is incomplete, it is possible to reconstruct a tentative layout of the house and the garden, and note how they interact with the narrative. |
