Description | The competition for the new town hall in the town of Šumperk (Mährisch Schönberg) was held in 1909 by the authorities. The jury assessed more than thirty projects, but the city council chose not the winner nor the second or third awarded architect for the realization. Instead, the councillors selected an architect who was well known in Šumperk for his recent realizations and personal connections to some of the councillors. Therefore, my intention in this paper is to show the most common patterns that have led the "acting institutions" to disregard the competition results and to act further in the planning and construction of the desired building quite freely and without restrictions. |
