Description | The topic of digital technologies and their use in education is sometimes associated mainly with school equipment, teacher preparedness or digital learning content. But school is only one environment where adolescents encounter technology. Another, and quite crucial, environment is the family, where children encounter digital technologies first and parents have a great influence on the shape of family life with technology. Equally important is how digital technologies co-shape the lives and learning of adolescents, who are therefore called digital teens. So how do teachers use technology in their teaching? Are the skills and knowledge about technology acquired in the classroom applicable to life outside school? How do parents perceive the role of technology in their children's learning and why? Why should adolescents watch YouTube? What purpose can adolescents serve by making videos? How do digital teens themselves view digital technology? Why do we talk about digital technology as a good servant and a bad master? In this talk, we will try to answer these and other questions by drawing on empirical data from several research studies. |
