Description | Ugo Foscolo’s “Sermone” is an unpublished, difficult and often unclear poem, and it serves as an example of moral and satyrical epistle which denounces vices and corruptions of intellectuals of the time. It also condemns the tyrannical evolution of Napoleonic power. In the one hand “Sermone” anticipates the literary battles that will involve Foscolo after the publication of “Dell’origine e dell’ufficio della letteratura”; in the other hand it it debates themes and motives that will become political and civil icons in Foscolo’s work. My paper illustrates those icons in the specific inter-textual horizon of “Inni alle Grazie”. |
