Description Clarinetist and composer Ferdinand Havlík (1928-2013) co-funded the Prague musical theatre Semafor in 1959, wich soon bevama a major cultural phenomenon. Havlík led the theatre´s band and arranged Jiří Šlitr´s songs in the first ten years; after Šlitr´s death, he became the theatre´s main composert and wrote music fortwo dozen plays by Jiří Suchý. Although no major hit has come out of his work that could live outside the theatre enviroment, Ferdinand Havlík has shown in his work that he is a very versatile composer who can xompose in a polysylistic manner and can imitate and parody a wide variety of musical genres. His music is often inseparable from the theatrical whole, but within a given musical-dramatic work it is characterised by its distinctive functionality a effectiveness.
