Description | Riding sideways on a horse has very ancient roots. In ancient times, they were depicted as female riders alongside mainly goddesses (e.g. Thetis, Eos). Even the Celtic goddess Epona rides sideways. Men are depicted as athletes. In the early Middle Ages, the Virgin Mary, also a divine woman, rides in such a way - even on a donkey. |
