Description | The research paper is focused on Sintaksis, a Russian exile literary journal which was founded by Andrei Sinyavsky and his wife Marie Rozanova in 1978 in Paris. Sinyavsky (1925 – 1997) was a Russian literary scientist and writer, convicted of subversion by the Soviet government in 1966 and sentenced to seven years of hard labour. After being released he was allowed to emigrate to France in 1973. First of all, the subject of main interest is literary criticism and essayistic writing published in Sintaksis from the late 70's to early 90's. The founder of the journal had been concerned all his life with questions of artistic freedom as we can see in his own conception of art which he succeeded to create especially with the help of his literary mask Abram Tertz. Sinyavsky defines the journal’s position as an effort to prove that art is not dependent on anything and is not bound by any limits. The aim is to defend the aesthetic and stylistic independence of art by exposing taboo topics or going beyond what is permitted. As Sinyavsky himself fundamentally shaped the journal’s character, selected texts are analyzed to show how his own ideas about art were manifested in the journal. |
