Description The aim of this article is to introduce briefly and clearly the so-called Construction grammar to the reader. Construction grammar is one of the most modern approaches to language, which since its early stage has been trying to change the previous view of the internal structure of language and the principles of its functioning. Constructionists posit that construction, defined as a symbolic structure and a bidirectional relationship between a certain form and a certain semantic function, which is learned by experience and stored in our mind, is the fundamental building unit of human language. First chapters of the article briefly present the historical-linguistic context in which constructional grammar occurred, especially noticing which ideas Construction grammar followed in its time and, conversely, what made it different from its predecessors. Then the basic concepts and principles of this linguistic theory are briefly explained, and finally, the article discusses the possibilities of using Construction grammar at the application level, i.e. in teaching foreign languages. Some of the results achieved so far in the field of Applied (Pedagogical) construction grammar are presented and the challenges that will need to be faced in the future in this field are outlined as well.
