Description The authors of this text are concerned with the concept of Polish literature in the works of F. Wollman and his relations to the Polish literary historians. In his young age, Wollman met the famous Polish literary historian and linguist A. Brückner in Berlin. Later on, he was engaged in a dispute with his teacher and his followers about the concept of Slavic literatures in which K. Bittner from the German University in Prague played a negative role. In harmony with his ideology, Wollman analysed in greater detail the nature of S. Źeromski and W. S. Reymont's works and paid attention to the literary and philosophical development of J. Słowacki. In his syntheses, he fractionally characterized certain developmental stages of Polish literature and selected authors, outlining the development of Polish Slavonic Studies and messianism. He also paid special attention to A. Mickiewicz's lectures in Paris which he perceived as the birth of understanding Slavic literatures as an organic unit.
