Description | It is a new edition of the basic work of Czech medieval historiography in latin language, which was created in the Cistercian monastery in Zbraslav. The chronicle has two authors, the first was Abbot Otto, the second and most important was another Abbot Peter of Zittau. The chronicle briefly discusses the reign of King Přemysl Otakar II., and then focuses on the personality of the founder of the monastery, King Wenceslas II. It also follows the reign of King John of Luxembourg and the fate of his young son, the later King and Emperor Charles IV. Peter's erudition, his ability to gather information and his highly valuable literary style place the chronicle among the most outstanding works of medieval production. |
