| Description | This paper examines the motif of the correct line (understood as a general motif and argumentative tool, not a term) that permeates across various discourses (political, academic, journalistic) in contemporary China. It is thus not only in the narrowly political context of Chinese Marxism, where this motif is most evident, that it is addressed. The paper identifies typical forms of this motif and reflects on its relevance to contemporary Chinese discourses on China's cultural and socio-political identity. In particular, it seeks to show how the inherent sinocentrism of the correct line argument limits the translation of Chinese discussions into an international context. |
