| Description | In the past, small technical industries had a strong place in the life and economy of rural communities. They have helped past generations to process crops, and produce some raw materials and finished products. Modernisation and new technologies caused many of them to become obsolete, stagnate and even disappear irreversibly during the 19th and 20th centuries. The traces of the existence of these factories have been preserved only in archival documents and pictures - and sometimes even in human memory. The book Traces of Human Wit summarises three years of interdisciplinary research into small-scale technical operations on the territory of the former Rožnov estate. The author's team presents the character and technological specifics of the operations studied, and their economic, social, cultural and landscape context. The reader will be able to get acquainted with the trace of these establishments in the local oral tradition and their reflection in individual and collective memory. |
