Description Regardless of study design, recruitment is always an important challenge for researchers. In the current paper, we would like to share some lessons learned in the recruitment techniques for an online survey study. In order to recruit for a survey study on Esports, the authors decided to try and recruit from a diverse population. To this end, they recruited both from their personal networks and via social media. While they were unable to recruit the desired number of participants (30- 50), they were able to learn a great deal about what worked and what did not in the recruitment process. Some of the issues encountered involved survey length and timing issues. Also, they learned that researchers need to be mindful about the limitations of the social media sites they use. We hope that sharing these lessons will be helpful to future researchers as they plan future research.
