Description | This post will focus on an analysis of selected texts published in the 1840s, which are modified by their authors based on their attitude towards the idea of Pan-Slavism. The main content of the post will be the analysis and comparison of two texts depicting trips to Russia, in which we can observe a crystallization of two opposing views on Pan-Slavism. These texts are "Obrazy a výjevy z Rus" by the anonymous author from the periodical "Denice", redacted by Jakub Malý, and "Pictures from Russia" by Karel Havlíček Borovský. The texts will be analyzed and compared, especially in terms of depicting potentially problematic phenomena (e.g. poverty, expressions of national identity) and the narrators´ assessment of the given topic. Extratextual facts will also be marginally considered. Special attention will be paid to the specifics of the genre and its important role not only in this particular case, but within the entire context of Czech periodical production in the first half of the 19th century. |
