Description Juvenile delinquency is a society-wide problem with a wide range of serious consequences for individuals and society. The paper maps the main causes and consequences of the global trend of increasing violent crime committed by juveniles, with an emphasis on the current development in the Czech Republic. It provides an overview of the current state of knowledge in the field, discusses specific factors influencing violent behaviour of juveniles, relying on selected case studies of the most recent of these crimes and focuses on effective strategies for the prevention of this important sociopathological phenomenon.
