Description | This paper deals with the presentation of preliminary results of Karaim lexical dictionary-based data analysis from the point of view of etymology with special focus on foreign items. The results presented include distribution of lexemes divided into four main groups – the Turkic base, inherited borrowed items, "proper" borrowed items and items borrowed from Jewish liturgical languages – in the general sample and in particular word classes both considered separately for each dialect of Karaim. The rates of distribution of isolated lexical roots and a brief overview on phonological and morphological adaptation and incorporation of the borrowed items are also provided. |
