Description The aim of this article is to examine the negotiation of the post-communist Balkans in the contemporary Greek cinema. Since the early 1990s, the Balkan Peninsula was characterised by generalized political and social instability, as well as economic difficulties. Simultaneously, one can notice intense efforts for westernization, as a continuous search for a more 'European' identity. In parallel, the migratory flows from the Balkans and the Eastern countries to Greece test the Greek state, whereas the Balkan Other finds himself between integration and marginalization. Within this multifaceted historical and political context Greek cinema attempts, on the one hand, to document the post-socialist reality in the Balkans, and, on the other hand, to represent aspects of interaction between the Balkan Other and the Greek society.
