Description The topic of the lecture is Josef Jungmann's contribution to the so-called analogical reform, showing that it was greater than is generally known, and that it is considerably older than the commonly reported 1817, when it was first published Jungmann's text in the new orthography. It will be shown that not only is there no need to to doubt Jungmann's co-authorship (with Hanka) of O počátku, but we should also note how much Jungmann's Illuminací 1829) . We shall thus show that: 1. Jungmann was not a late contemporary, but, alongside Hanka, a fundamental the principal architect of the orthographic reform; 2. he agreed with, or was co-author of, the Panslavist parts of the reform (which eventually ended up in the form of Hanka's diacritical reform) outside the accepted canon.
