Description A guided tour through the Juliánov housing estate in Brno with a focus on landscape conception and artistic realisation took place under the guidance of Martina Mrázová and Anna Magni. The socialist prefabricated housing estates, like housing complexes in Western Europe, were based on the modernist concept of living in nature. The idea of houses freely spread out in green spaces was also a determining factor for the architect Pavel Krchňák, whose design was the basis for the Juliánov housing estate (1960-1967). For the construction of the first ever prefabricated housing estate in Brno, a location on the edge of a former sand quarry with views of the landscape was chosen. The specific topography of the area became the starting point not only for the urban form of the housing estate, but also for the landscaping designed by Ivar Otruba, one of the most respected Czech landscape architects. The open spaces between the residential blocks were also shaped by artworks by renowned Brno artists. The functional sculptures of organic shapes by Zdeněk Macháček, which were intended to serve as children's climbing frames, are one of the most comprehensive sets of this type in the country.
