Description The contribution aims to map the nodal points of research reflections of 18th-century Austrian cabinet painters, which are currently represented in many Central European public and private collections. Thanks to the sources of inspiration that these authors straddled between the work of the Dutch, Italian, and French masters, the list of suitable overarching designations derived from this fact over time was far from limited to a single term. As a result of the geographical, cultural, and linguistic contexts, a particularly remarkable tendency was the inclusion of Viennese production in the "pan-German" framework. The main purpose of the contribution is to evaluate the different points of view on which this group of works was assessed during their "second life" and to point out more than two hundred years of changes in the distribution of the phenomenon of Austrian cabinet painting.
