| Description | Martin Skalický, so far known mainly as an author of textile sculptures, revives his old interest in rectangular forms and their possibilities to construct shape and volume at the Ostrava exhibition. Using simple geometric forms, he creates archetypal figural compositions from the most ordinary materials, such as a father and son or a pregnant woman. In doing so, he shifts the initial inspiration of Brancusi's Kiss into an aesthetic reminiscent of pixelated characters from computer games such as Minecraft, bringing a certain amount of light-hearted humour to his vision. Along with a pair of characters climbing on each other's backs to look around the devastated landscape, we thus glimpse a new hope in the distance. |
