| Description | A tied agent is one type of financial intermediary. A characteristic feature of its activity is that it represents directly and only one principal, typically an insurance company, securities dealer, consumer credit provider, or pension company, in the form of a contractual business relationship. In this representation, the tied agent acts in his name and on his behalf. If the tied agent is a natural person in business, the question arises whether he/she is in a similar position to the principal as an employee to the employer. Answering this question has implications for tied agents as individuals who typically do not enjoy the same protection as employees but also for the public budget. |
