Description In the conference contribution, we discussed the clothing of devotional statues of saints in Spanish-speaking countries, the specifics of Spanish sculpture, the influence of Spanish court fashion on the development of the clothing of these statues and their participation in religious processions. We compared two identical invocations of the Virgin Mary (Virgin Mary Candelárská from the island of Tenerife and Virgin Mary Hromničná from Bučovice) to illustrate the uniqueness of the Spanish style of dressing devotional statues and paintings. At the end, we talked about the criticism of wearing images and their incorrect worship, at the same time we also highlighted the positives and benefits that the aesthetic processing of religious themes can bring to believers and what it means for popular religiosity.
