Description The chapter focuses on the process of defining Workers' Film Festival (WFF) in Zlín/Gottwaldov by the city municipality and the local press in 1948–49. The paper sheds light on the ways how the agents connected to this event presented the city of Zlín/Gottwaldov as a ideal spot for organising a film festival and the regional center of a film culture. The main arguments were driven by the scope of the event, the specific audience structure, and the close connection to a local film community and infrastructure. These aspects were promoted by the local press as crucial advantages at the expense of the International Film Festival Mariánské Lázně in 1948, and the other regional cities, co-organising the second edition of WFF, in 1949.
