Description | The chapter deals with a buying, selling and credit cooperative founded in 1922 on the initiative of a group of clergymen and laymen on the border of South Bohemia and the Highlands. The main mover was the dean of Pelhřimov, František Vaněk, and the aim of the activity was to raise the level of decoration of church buildings and liturgical art. At the time of the First Republic, the cooperative belonged to the commercial and artistic elite. Despite the death of its founder, it survived the Second World War and the introduction of the post-war national administration, but not the rise of the communist regime. The text traces all aspects of the cooperative's economic activities and their transformations - modifications to the statutes, changes in the range of services and commodities provided. It reflects on the composition and renewal of governing bodies and interpersonal relationships crucial to cooperative enterprise. Evaluates the economic health of the cooperative, analyzes the preconditions and reasons for economic success, and identifies the causes of business failures. Examines cooperative adaptation strategies and their success in times of crisis. The analysis is set in the context of the political milieu and economic situation of Czechoslovakia in the first half of the 20th century. |
