| Description | In the article the Latvian word gala ‘meat, flesh’ is discussed from the point of view of its internal structure, derivatives and origin. First its existing etymologies are summarized, than a new solution is offered. The word was included into a set of anatomical terms in several Indo-European branches belonging to the alimentary canal, from ‘throat’ to ‘intestines’. |
