Description | The Slavic languages coincide in many respects and have evolved from a single proto-language - Proto-Slavic. The inflection of nouns is a very important topic in the morphology of contemporary Slavic languages. In the present work the inflection of masculine nouns in Czech, Russian and Belarusian is discussed and the principle of inflection in the mentioned Slavic languages is compared. Russian and Belarusian are similar to each other in grammatical structure, number of cases and inflection principle, but they have some different endings. Czech, which belongs to the group of West Slavic languages, has a different inflectional principle than Russian and Belarusian, which are East Slavic languages. It can be assumed that many of the features that distinguish the present Slavic languages from each other were common to all of them in the past. Thanks to the tables with examples of masculine inflections, it is possible to compare the principle of declension in the three Slavic languages and to find similarities and differences in endings. |
