People cannot not hear, but they have learned not to listen. Everyone can read, but not everyone is a reader, and similarly, most creatures can hear, but not everyone is a listener. Reading books is a completely non-social activity, while music cannot be done without participants - someone has to conduct and listen, someone has to play and listen, and others listen with at least as much effort as those who play or conduct. Music creates communities, and the members of the Brno Contemporary Orchestra love and appreciate its power. |
