Description The Sámi people went through rapid changes during the 20th century. From a nation that was under constant pressure by governments and majority of society to a nation which was able to fight for its own parliament and self-governing. Their political position changed dramatically after the WWII, from the creation of the Sámi Council, through important events like the Alta conflict to the first Sámi parliament in Norway and the Sámi Parliamentary Conference and Council. Position of the Sámi parliaments in Norway, Sweden and Finland is unique from the worldwide perspective and this presentation will try to explain and describe the path that is behind this success.
