| Description | The Slavic cemetery in Dolní Věstonice – Na pískách was used for burials from approximately the turn of the 8th/9th century to the mid-11th century. Archaeological research in 1946–1959 uncovered almost 1300 skeleton graves, making the site one of the largest of its kind in Moravia. The burial rite and the equipment of the graves are similar to the so-called rural cemeteries. The publication contains an assessment of the current state of research on early medieval chronology in Moravia and an analysis of the methods used to create chronology based on grave finds. The core of the work is an analysis of the burial rite and material culture of the Dolní Věstonice cemetery, set in the context of Central European research. In the conclusion, the development of burial at the site and the chronology of its material culture are presented, developed, among others, using the method of horizontal stratigraphy. |
