Description | This paper presents results of an etymological analysis of the semantic subfield of zoonyms in the Yiddish lexicon. The results are shown in terms of general comprehensive overview comparing compositional tendencies in standard and non-standard data, subcategories taken from the fields of biology, ethnography, and history, and other religioculturally relevant contexts. A special focus is placed on the presence of synonyms, derivational processes and speaker preference as well as specific features in the adaptation and incorporation of loanwords into the Yiddish linguistic system. |
