Description Using the example of the hitherto unpublished "General Monumental Decoration of the City of Brno", the conference contribution is devoted to the transformations of the public space of normalizing Brno and the tendencies to introduce contemporary narratives and values into the existing urban structure through works of art. Generel, focusing mainly on spaces in the city center, developed in 1972 the Design Institute of the Czech Association of Production Cooperatives under the leadership of architect Jan Dvořák. He determined a total of 11 urbanistically most urgent locations, roads and intersections and proposed their completion with monumental works of art of various nature. The conference contribution is presented by Generel in the context of architect Dvořák's reflections on the relationship between plastic works and architectural space on the specific example of Moravské náměstí. It deals with the relationship of the iconography of the works to the history of the places, the changes in the values of the clients and the connections with contemporary exhibitions of sculptural works in public space. The contribution also touches on the possibilities of contemporary forms of installation of works of art in the public space of the city of Brno in the form of permanently placed works and temporary interventions.
