Description | The Czechoslovak institutional Polish studies emerged in 1923 simultaneously in Prague, Brno and Bratislava. At that time, the first independent Department of Polish Language and Literature outside the Polish territory was established at Charles University in Prague. In connection with the upcoming anniversary, the research project Česká univerzitní polonistika do roku 1939 (Czech University Polish Studies before 1939) was initiated in 2019. The aim was to present the development of Czech Polonistics from the first Slavonic interests at the time of the National Revival up to the closure of Czech universities under the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The project combines research into the history of the discipline in a broad contemporary context with diachrony and synchrony approaches to the language and literature. The outcome is an original synthesis of the history of the Polish Studies within the researched period in the form of a collective monograph. The essay also offers a discussion on the condition and perspectives of the Czech Polonistics, which was reflected in publications, conferences and at the 1st Congress of the Czech Polish Studies. |
