Description | In his 1615 architectural treatise Vincenzo Scamozzi distinguished between (a) the expression of the architect´s invention and idea through drawing, (b) the communication of architectural form through a model, and (c) the interaction between the creator, the client and the public through linguistic expression. The two-dimensional drawings and the three-dimensional models are still the most important media that convey the architect´s invention, leading to the building´s realization. The paper uses selected examples to present the changing relationship between these two media primarily in the early modern period. It considers the possibilities of using them to understand the mental work of the architect, depending on how he approached the presentation of his invention. |
