Description This chapter presents contemporary learning theories synthetically from the perspective of individual modes of adult learning. Jarvis identified the educator’s commitment when he stated that the fundamental aim of education is to help the learners become independent in their learning. Inspired by Jarvis, we proceed from directed learning through facilitated learning, then self-directed learning, to naturally emerging learning.
