Description Abortion is a medical procedure like many others. From a technical perspective, it is identical to the evacuation of the uterus after a miscarriage. Nevertheless, abortion, the gynecological matter and especially the deeply personal matter of a woman, has become a sphere many thinks can interfere, mostly the representatives of religions and ultra-conservative forces (mostly all men). This presentation discusses legislation in different European countries, current trends, and historical changes. It presents the phenomenon of pendulum and its oscillations between two marginal positions, in this case, ultra-conservativism (ban of abortion for all and always – regardless of health and life of a woman or a foetus, regardless of rape or incest) and ultra-liberalism (abortion accessible to a hight week of gestation, covered from national health insurance, ban of conscientious objections for health care providers). The presentation concludes by calling for women’s autonomy while supporting the Golden mean between the two extreme positions.
