Description The presented text deals with the sociolinguistic context in the film adaptation of the life of one of the most important figures in Czech history, Master Jan Hus. The three-part miniseries from 2015 depicting the most important moments in the Master’s life was created in honor of the commemoration of 600 years since his execution. In addition to historical facts and important contexts of the Master’s life and preaching activity, attention is also focused on his defense of the Czech language. The aim of the article is to map historical and sociolinguistics facts and to present evidence of the presence and importance of the sociolinguistic context in the work of Jan Hus for understanding the role of native language in human life and its functioning in society.
