Description The article examines the theatrical activities carried out during the winter periods of the 19th and early 20th centuries on scientific expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica. The author focuses on the British polar expeditions that have already been studied, such as those led by Parry, Austin, and Scott, which were characterized by welldeveloped theatrical productions. Additionally, the previously unexplored Austro-Hungarian expedition of Carl Weyprecht and Julius Payer to the Arctic is examined from a similar perspective. While the British Royal Navy used theatre as a means of discipline to control their men, other expeditions saw creative expression as a way to overcome mental and physical difficulties and to maintain morale.
