Description The paper focuses on Colonel Švec (1930), the adaptation of Rudolf Medek's theater play and novels, directed by Svatopluk Innemann. First, the article compares Colonel Švec to a parallel cinematic project of the national epic drama St. Wenceslas (1930) and it, also, involves the picture to a transnational trend of legionnaire films in European cinemas during the 1920s. Second, the paper analyses film's narrative and stylistic techniques and it explains how they are used in order to portray the main character as a Czechoslovak national hero.
