Description There are several poetic adaptations of the life of the 4th century Saint Alexius of Rome and one of them is associated with the territory of Slovakia. It was written by the humanist Valentin Eck, who spent the majority of his life in the city of Bardejov. In this paper, we analyse both the content and stylistics of his poem known as De divo Alexio patricio Romano, comparing it with the medieval legend about Saint Alexius from the hagiographic collection Legenda aurea. Selected passages are poetically translated into Slovak.
