Description In this article, we discuss medieval ideology in Ancient Russia. As Andrzej Poppe pointed out in 1991, the establishment of ideology in Kievan Rus was crucial for the religious, cultural and social development of the whole of Eastern Europe. Despite this, historians have neglected many questions about ideology. We have addressed the question of the chronological beginnings of ideology in Kievan Rus and, on the basis of widely held Christian beliefs, raised doubts as to whether ideology was really created by princes to tell stories about their power and legitimacy.
