Description | The review study provides remarks on the relationship of the composer Jan Novák to his birthplace, which is Nová Říše. Jan Novák (1921–1984) represents an important personality who intervened not only in the Brno and Czechoslovak musical life, but also left his mark in the international context. When searching for the composer's traces in his birthplace, we found the following three traces: ancestral and family, musically genetic, and two of reception aspect, if we can use a term for musical sociology to describe the process of social acceptance of a certain musical personality and its work. These two clues proving the significance and contribution of the work of a native of Nová Říše for domestic and exile music culture are the Jan Novák Memorial Hall in the local monastery and a memorial plaque on his birthplace installed on the occasion of the composer's 75th birthday in 1996. The study is not analytical but factual, drawing attention and presenting some important facts for the future author of the Novák's biography. |
