Description In 1997, the Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich wrote the book Chernobyl Prayer, focusing on the nuclear disaster that altered the course of the world. However, her primary aim was to provide a voice to the individuals directly afflicted by the disaster. More than twenty years later, the HBO TV series Chernobyl endeavoured to depict this event in a new way, and Alexievich's work significantly influenced its creators. The objective of this paper is to investigate which aspects of the TV series drew inspiration from Alexievich’s book – whether it simply borrows certain plots, or if there are also similarities in the poetics of these otherwise dissimilar portrayals of the Chernobyl tragedy.
