| Description | The introductory chapter to the book about the architect Jan Santini-Aichel presents the paths of the historiography of the history of art from architect´s death to the present. The author mentions its initial appreciation, later oblivion, and then a new "discovery" at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. From this moment, interest in Santini's work continued to grow until today, when Santini's works are appreciated for their remarkable originality, symbolism and even the magical power of mysterious meanings. The author concentrates on the analysis of the interpretations of leading Prague and Brno art historians, appreciates the great synthesis of Mojmír Horyna and also notes current new attempts at interpretation by Czech and foreign specialists. The final passage highlights the multi-meaning syntax of each of Santini's architectural works. |
