Description | The book contains the Greek text and a Czech translation of Clement&apos,s Excerpts from Theodotus and an introduction, the third and fourth chapters of which (pp. 47-268) are also a detailed commentary on the text of the Excerpts. Excerpts from Theodotus are part of a mysterious text preserved in a manuscript behind the Stromata and entitled ",The Eighth Book of the Stromata",. This text consists of various notes and is traditionally divided into three parts, called the Eighth Book of Stromat, Excerpts from Theodotus and Eclogae propheticae. Parts one and three have already been published in Czech translation. Excerpts from Theodotus are notes containing mostly quotations and paraphrases from the works of the Valentinian Gnostics and the appended commentaries of Clement. It is thus undoubtedly one of the most important documents of the Valentinian Gnosis and at the same time a valuable source of knowledge of Clement&apos,s own theological thought formed, among other things, in confrontation with these doctrines. |
