Description The present paper takes the form of a chronological survey of the earliest italophone contributions on medieval Armenian art and architecture produced between the nineteenth century and the First World War. While these works have been largely overlooked by scholars focusing on the subject, probably because of their modest art-historical output, they are nevertheless relevant for understanding the dynamics that led to the development of scholarship in Italy from the 1960s onwards.
