Description | Cultural heritage is a broad concept that includes the culture of a nation or ethnic group and its tangible and intangible manifestations. In connection with ethnology and its research, the study of manifestations related to traditional folk culture, especially rural culture, is of course the most open. This is not only characterized by specific artifacts, but above all by the generational transmission of values, knowledge and skills, as well as the belonging of the bearers and their relationship to the given culture. The motivations for this process are various, and from a professional point of view, we consider their capture to be as important as the manifestations themselves. This is the basis for the joint monograph of the staff of the Institute of European Ethnology of the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, Folk Traditions as Part of Cultural Heritage. While the introductory chapter focuses on the development of the concept of cultural heritage, in the remaining parts of the book the authors address selected topics from the field of material and intangible culture. In their texts, they try to explain to readers that elements of folk culture and their connection with cultural heritage must always be viewed in a broader historical and social context. The team of authors concludes that folk traditions can be considered a part of cultural heritage that still has the potential to grow and develop today. |
