Description | INVISIBLE CITIES The twelfth subscription season of the Brno Contemporary Orchestra is based on musical excursions to vanishing, disappearing or changing places in Brno, to wanted and unwanted memories and to places of complete oblivion. The overall concept is based on the book Invisible Cities by the Italian writer Italo Calvino, whose birth centenary we commemorate in 2023. Everyone has their own invisible city, the one they visited in their childhood, the one they dreamed of during a summer night, the one they never visited or the one they never wanted to visit. Above all, however, everyone knows thousands of cities that they have read or heard about. These journeys through memory and oblivion are full of signs, feelings, nostalgia, things, situations and dreams and mysteries. Ideas can be expressed in other ways than words, so we let music tell about invisible places, destinies, memories and situations. As part of the season, we will visit six different buildings that are no longer what they were or could have been. Calvin's amazing narratives in conjunction with specific places evoked other literary memories in us, and so non-digital hypertexts and a plethora of improbable metalanguages were formed. Again, we misused music to help us not drown in the excess of codes, structures, information, signs and symbols. If you want, you can listen to the fantastic memory of places, and if you don't, you can listen to the sounding structures of music, or you can do both. |
